Canada Graduate Scholarships at the University of Waterloo 2022-2023 Graduate Scholarships are available at the University of Waterloo for both international and domestic students. The scholarship is normally worth $1,000 per term for a maximum of three terms. It will be given to graduate students enrolled full-time at the University of Waterloo in a Master’s or Doctoral program.

Students who wish to apply for graduate scholarships must have a cumulative average of at least 80% in their current program. Students do not need to apply; eligible graduates will be nominated automatically based on their allocation of funds.

University of Waterloo Canada Graduate Scholarships 2022-2023 are available for Masters’s and Ph.D. level programs at the University of Waterloo.

Subjects Available: The following subjects are available for study through this scholarship program.

Benefits of the All Subjects Scholarship:
A minimum of $1,000 per term for up to three terms is usually required (value and duration may vary, depending on other funding the student may be receiving).

Nationalities eligible: All Nationalities

Domestic and international graduate students enrolled full-time in a Master’s or Doctoral program are eligible.
A first-class (80%) cumulative average in the current program or the previous two full-time academic years is required.
Must be completed within the program’s time constraints.
There is no need to apply. Departments will automatically nominate students based on their budget allocation.
Language proficiency in English (ELP)
English is the official language of instruction at the University of Waterloo. It is our responsibility to ensure that all students have the necessary English language skills to succeed.

TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language – Internet-based TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
We do not accept TOEFL MyBestTM scores to fulfill the ELP requirement; all scores must be obtained in a single test.
When ordering your TOEFL from the Education Testing Service (ETS), enter the following code: 0996. (University of Waterloo).
01 is the department code (Graduate Studies).

IELTS (academic) – C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency in the International English Language Testing System
CAEL stands for Canadian Academic English Language. PTE (Academic) stands for Pearson Test of English. EFAS stands for English for Academic Success.

It is critical to understand:

ELP results are valid for two years from the date of the test.
Specific ELP program requirements can be found on our program pages.
Letters from your university stating that English is the medium of instruction do not satisfy Waterloo admission requirements.
Completing your test at least two months before the application deadline will ensure that your results arrive on time. Your official test score will arrive in Waterloo in 4-6 weeks.

Admission on the basis of English language proficiency
If you are applying to a graduate program and have submitted an ELP test but are slightly below the required score, you may be offered conditional admission.
Conditional admission may be granted if you apply with a sponsorship that includes funding for English language studies.

Exemptions for ELPs
If any of the following conditions apply at the time of your application to Waterloo, you are exempt from submitting an English language proficiency examination score:

You have three or more years of post-secondary education from a Canadian college or university. or You have a graduate degree from a Canadian university. or You have three or more years of postsecondary education or a graduate degree from one of the exempt countries listed below. or You have worked in a position where English was the language of business for at least three years in one of the countries listed below. or
